Before We Hang the New Motor
A proper repower starts before the old engine comes off. Charleston Marine evaluates the boat and existing systems before installation so potential problems can be identified before a new outboard is mounted and rigged.
-
Transom condition and integrity — inspect for visible damage, flex, cracking, water intrusion concerns and mounting-area condition.
-
Fuel system — inspect the fuel tank, hoses, fittings, filters and fuel delivery system for age, condition and compatibility with the new engine.
-
Steering system — check hydraulic steering components, hoses, helm condition and steering capacity for the new horsepower.
-
Battery system — evaluate batteries, switches, cables, connections and available electrical capacity.
-
Controls and rigging — determine what controls, gauges, harnesses, key switches and existing rigging can be reused and what should be replaced.
-
Engine mounting and transom height — confirm the new outboard can be mounted at the correct height and position for the hull.
-
Propeller and performance setup — select an appropriate starting propeller and verify the final engine setup during testing.
-
Existing wiring and connections — inspect critical wiring and grounds so old electrical problems are not carried into the new installation.
Finding these issues before installation gives us the opportunity to address them before an expensive new outboard is hanging on the transom. It also allows us to build a more accurate, itemized repower quote before the work begins.

Complete Yamaha Repower Installation

A Yamaha repower is more than simply replacing the engine. Charleston Marine evaluates your existing controls, gauges, steering, wiring, propeller and rigging, then provides an itemized quote based on what can be reused and what should be replaced.

Depending on the engine and application, a Yamaha repower can retain compatible mechanical rigging or be upgraded with Yamaha Digital Electronic Controls, Digital Electric Steering, touchscreen engine displays and Helm Master EX integration. Yamaha offers both mechanical and digital-control options across much of its larger outboard lineup, giving us flexibility when matching the new engine and rigging to your boat.

Our goal is to give you a properly matched Yamaha package that performs the way your boat should, with the engine, controls, steering, propeller, rigging and supporting systems addressed as part of the complete repower.
Charleston Marine sells and installs Yamaha outboards for virtually every type of outboard-powered boat, including center consoles, bay boats, skiffs, flats boats, bowriders, pontoons, walkaround and cuddy-cabin boats, performance boats, offshore boats and commercial work boats throughout Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Yamaha offers outboards ranging from portable engines through high-horsepower Offshore and XTO Offshore models, along with mechanical and Digital Electronic Control configurations. For compatible digital applications, Helm Master EX can add integrated steering, joystick control and additional boat-control features.

Whether you're replacing an older mechanical-control Yamaha, upgrading to digital controls and electric steering, repowering a commercial work boat, or building a multi-engine offshore package, Charleston Marine can evaluate the boat and provide a complete Yamaha repower quote including the engine, controls, gauges, steering, propeller, rigging and installation.
